The Northumberland Shepherd Hut Company is a family owned and run adventure, hard work but very enjoyable!
We’re Paul and Susan Walsh and we live in rural Northumberland with our four kids and a menagerie of animals akin to a small petting zoo.
Before moving into huts we founded Trunk Reclaimed, hand making bespoke furniture, kitchens and accessories from reclaimed wood. Whilst we still run Trunk, from the moment we started to make our first hut we were smitten, not just by the builds themselves but by the enthusiasm and excitement of the owners and anyone else who watches their progress from rolling chassis to finished product. We are incredibly fortunate that we have a great team to work with and individuals to call upon, not only in the workshop, but locally, from our blacksmith who hand makes the wheels to one of our local farmers who oversees moving the huts out of the workshop and getting them to their destination, whilst maintaining a sense a of humour and ‘nowts a bother’ attitude!
There’s something about a shepherds hut in particular that evokes childlike anticipation of a new discovery, like going on holiday, camping out or building a den. It’s a new space, a little bit frivolous yet incredibly practical with endless possibilities.
